I'm thinking along the lines of SPServices, but will these templates and further ideas for them include SPServices within the templates themselves? If so, we might get the version dependency plague.

Otherwise, will these templates purely work without hard-coded use of jQuery SPServices, and accept any nodeset (but work best when the nodeset happens to be from an SPDataSource)?

The goal is to make available XSL which stands alone, XSL templates that can be called without any dependencies, if at all possible.  Where there are dependencies, I would like to bundle them up together.

Each template will, of course, take some parameters as input, and the requirements for those parameters will need to be clearly documented.

In other words, this is a totally different effort than SPServices.
